be engulfed by a housing estate should this project go ahead.
Throughout the area many people have placed similar banners
or signs in their houses as a protest. |
25th, 26th & 27th September 2009
A camp was set up in the field at the end of Somers Road, known as the Meadow |
|
Five members of the
Save the Greenbelt
campaign spent a weekend, from Friday afternoon until Sunday
afternoon, helping to raise local awareness of the local situation.
Time was spent gathering comments and passing on the information
about the outrageous plans of both Coventry City Council and
Nuneaton & Bedworth District Council.
These joint plans seek to obliterate a huge part of the Greenbelt
in the Keresley area.
The camp team were Magpie ,Cat, Pete, John and Merle. Thanks
go to David and Tracy for supplying the provisions. |
The camp - held over the weekend of 25th, 26th & 27th September |
8th August 2009 - Longford festival |
|
On a sunny day
in August Merle, with a small band of helpers, set up a
booth at the Longford Festival. Information was given to
local residents about the council plans for the greenbelt
who were then invited to sign the petition.
A number of supporters toured the festival to gather signatures
for the petition. Many of those approached were completley
unaware of the council proposals. So much for the consultation !!
Over 3000 signatures were finally obtained, and the petition
was later presented to Nuneaton and Bedworth District Council.
As Merle says, all groups within the region must stick together,
and not be fooled into trying to shift growth somewhere
else in the area.
The
letter handed in with the petition can be read by clicking
